BASCA celebrates the 10th Anniversary of the CapeAbilities Run, Walk, & Roll September 24

Got a cape and some running shoes? Then you will be perfectly attired for the annual BASCA fundraiser, the 5K Run, Walk, & Roll with a one-mile Fun Run. BASCA is celebrating 10 years of this unique event with a party after the race that will 

include food, music, superheroes, and more.

Registration is now open and Early Bird Pricing is available until September 10. Proceeds will allow BASCA to increase its Day Program from 60 to 100 individuals.

The annual event welcomes everything from racing shoes to wheelchairs for the family-friendly event. This year’s celebration will include special guests including appearances by Superheroes and Star Wars characters. Local singer Stephen Quinn will sing the national anthem. Title sponsors for the event are the Jacksonville Jaguars Foundation and Publix Super Markets Charities.

The event includes a 1-Mile Fun Run and 5K that begins and ends at BASCA’s facilities at 352 Stowe Avenue in Orange Park. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and all races start at 8 a.m. followed by a celebration after the races. 

This year, participants will get a disposable bib chip timer that eliminates the shoe tag, so there is no chip to rent or return. Runners will get an instant text message with their time as they cross the finish line. Both the Fun Run and the 5K will include a Jaguar Kiosk where runners can get a print-out showing their time and place. Plus, free finish line photos will be available for download to social media or purchase a high-resolution print. Friends and family will be able to follow your progress with live results online.

Awards will be presented to the top three men and women overall and in multiple age groups, and to the first male and female overall. Registration fees are $30 for the 5K and $10 for the Fun Run until September 10. After September 10, the registration will be $35 for the 5K and $15 for the Fun Run. BASCA also offers a Virtual Capabilities 5K, the $30 registration fee includes a T-shirt and medal sent after the event.

BASCA (Building Abilities of Special Children and Adults) provides residential services, life skill development, transportation, activities, and other support services for men and women with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Founded in 1994, BASCA was established to provide improved living, working, social activities, and educational opportunities for those with special needs.
